Match Report
Dylan Keane’s try and a nerveless match winning conversion from Ryan Roache sealed victory for Galwegians and left Corinthians reeling, with the local bragging rights secured in the most thrilling of finales.
A slow start had Wegians 10-0 down and struggling after 12 minutes, but MJ Duffy struck towards the end of the first quarter after a flowing backline move to halve the deficit. Soon matters were tied up, with scrum half Harry Walsh doing what scrum halves do best to sneak in and score with a snipe from five yards out.
After five minutes of the second half it was back to square one, with a penalty and converted try for the visitors re-establishing the Corinthians cushion of ten points. Centre Hugh Gavin was the next man to eat into the lead, with a well-executed lineout move providing the platform for him to barge over.
What looked to be a crucial Corinthians penalty altered the scoreline to 17-23, but the young ‘Wegians were not beaten.
Another scintillating backline move took play from halfway to the tryline, with Duffy held just short of for his second try of the day.
Following in was Keane however, with Roache left with a win or bust conversion. And win it was, with Blues holding out to dramatically topple their near neighbours.
