Match Report

Galwegians Blue booked their place in the Connacht Cup Final with a brilliant team performance on Sunday, out scoring their opponents by 3 tries to 1 in the Semi-Final.

Wegians dominated the first half thanks to their pack, Colm O Flaherty, Fichra Durkin, Craig Fox, and pressure finally turned into points when Cian Healy scored his first try of the day with a solo break. Jonah Culligan slotted over the conversion to leave the score 7-0 after 10 minutes.

Wegians were back in the Sligo 22 and after numerous phases scrum half Robert Hennessey went over in the corner, the resulting conversion was missed and that left the score 12-0 at the break. 10 minutes into the second half Cian Healy was set up by Aaron O Halloran to score his second try and virtually kill off the game, Culligan converted and that made the score 19-0.

Sligo battled back and scored what turned out to be a consolaton try. The game finished 19-7. Dave and Martin were delighted with the performance not just from the 1 to 22, but for the 1 to 50 including the black squad who were the inspiration for this victory.

Galwegians Blue march on to the Connacht Final to be played on the 25th March.
