Match day programme feature, Galwegians v Garryowen, Apr 11th 2015

Today we honour a club legend Brendan Guerin for a lifetime of service to Galwegians.

Indeed Brendan has given a lifetime of service to the game of rugby, and in this picture a fresh-faced Brendan can be seen with his Castleknock College team-mates who won the Leinster Schools Senior Cup in 1947.

Brendan joined Galwegians in 1955, and was part of the legendary five-in-a-row League & Cup-winning team from 1956-60. He won his solitary cap for Ireland against Scotland in 1956, and went on to represent Connacht for many years.

A true clubman, Brendan then served many years on the committee and was Galwegians President in 1973-74.

His late wife Phil also gave many years’ valuable service to the club, and both his sons Enda and Shane were Galwegians club captains and each went on to play for Connacht.

In 2009 Brendan received the Connacht Rugby Hall of Fame Award, and is pictured here with President Michael D Higgins at the Great Galwegians Gathering in 2012.
