Match Report
Wegians 2nds notched up their second bonus point win in a row with the defeat of Ballyhaunis at Crowley Park on Sunday.
None of the Wegians cognoscenti could remember Ballyhaunis ever playing a league game at this level in Wegians before, and the visitors put up a sterling display on their Crowley Park debut.
Wegians led by 9 points at half time, with tries from Robbie Keegan, Paul Hackett, and Matt Dever finishing off some excellent build-up play and lay the foundation for the bonus point win.
Ballyhaunis had showed plenty of fight and scored a well earned try just before halftime but they were unable to keep up with the pace that Wegians were putting on the game. The bonus point try came from Jack Dineen, before the score was embellished with a try from Dave Butler.
Ballyhaunis wouldn't lie down and scored their second try before a yellow card for Jason East, who took exception to the rucking technique of the visitors, looked like it might make for a jittery finish to the match for Wegians.
But the card just seemed to get their dander up and to sweeping moves ended in tries for Shane Madden and Dave Clarke to leave Wegians well on their way to bouncing straight back up to Div 1A.
