A converted try from captain Michael Hastings helped UCD record their eighth win in ten AIB League meetings with Galwegians at Belfield.

A swift counter-attack from the Students sent Hastings hurtling over the line early on in this dour encounter. Killian Lett converted fort he home side who led 7-0 at half-time, which was probably poor reward for their dominance.

While the wind and rain made play very difficult, Wegians continued to disappoint in the second-half as they never so much as threatened the visitors once, with almost all the play confined to their own half. Despite this, it took the students a long time to seal victory when Lett sent a clinching penalty over the bar five minutes from time to deny 'Wegians a losing bonus point.
