Firsts 18 – Corinthians 16

Wegians overcame arch rival Corinthians in what was a bit of a nail-biter of a finish on Saturday. Played in glorious sunshine, two early tries by the omnipresent John Moloney had us well in command at 12-3.

But just before half-time, we lost prop Doran McHugh to injury, and a controversial penalty try put our visitors right back in contention. Corinthians dominated the third quarter but were unable to cross for an all-important second try. They eventually took the lead late on, in fact on two occasions with penalties.

But each time our own Dave Clarke responded in kind to put our noses back in front, and we closed it out to seal bragging rights, at least until we face off again in the AIL in a few weeks' time.
