Match Report
Belfast Harlequins continued their recent rich vein of form by ending Galwegians’ bid for AIB Cup glory at Deramore Park.
It was another disappointing result for Wegians as the home side avenged their opening day League defeat in Glenina by qualifying for next month's semi-finals with back rowers Chris McCarey (2) and Andy Ward sharing out their tries.
McCarey’s first effort, adding to an early penalty from out-half Rory Blake-Knox, helped the hosts go into the turnaround with an 8-7 buffer, with Wegians scoring a try late in the opening half through in-form winger John Cleary. Quins stretched their lead in the second-half with their second try from McCarey to make it 15-7, but Cleary kept ‘Wegians in the hunt with a hat-trick of tries - taking his tally to five tries in two games. Unfortunately for the Blues his last came as too little too late as ‘Quins player-coach Andy Ward had earlier spun out of a tackle and piled over for the clinching score.
