Galwegians Regain Connacht Senior Cup

Galwegians regained the Connacht Senior Cup with a well deserved 19-6 win over arch-rivals the Buccaneers at the Sportsground on Sunday at 3pm. John Cleary kicked four penalties and a conversion with a 100% strike rate, and a superb try scored by Mick Carroll early in the second half completed the scoring. If anything the scoreboard was flattering to the Buccs who could find no way through the well marshalled Galwegians defence.

Wegians had the better of the first-half but could not fully make their dominance count. An early John Cleary penalty was cancelled out by David Connellan of Buccaneers who had a strong wind behind them but could not make much use of it. But Wegians did manage to regain the lead on the stroke of half time with a second strike by Cleary.
