Match Report

Galwegians will need to improve on their accuracy and their first up tackling, if they are to bounce straight back to Div 1B after a lacklustre defeat away to Terenure in Dublin on Sat.

Playing with a stiff breeze, Wegians failed to convert early penalty chances before Terenure took a 3 point lead with their first foray into the Wegians half. 10 mins 3-0.

The home side were making good yardage in possession as Wegians fell off far too many tackles and eventually they worked their way over in the corner. 15 mins 8-0

'Nure dominated the next quarter but some good scramble defense prevented further scores.

Wegians eventually managed to go through some phases and worked their way into the game. A change of kicker resulted in Wegians getting on the scoreboard. 30 mins 8-3. Pen T Leader.

However a silly mistake from the kickoff gave possession back to Terenure and a kick-able penalty quickly followed. 32 mins 11-3.

The game lurched towards half time without further troubling the scoreboard. Halftime 11-3 to Terenure.

The home side controlled both possession and territory in the early stages of the second half and the pressure ultimately broke the hard working defense of the sky blues and Terenure stretched their lead to 15 points. 60 mins 16-3.

Fresh legs from the bench sparked a bit of life into Wegians and their dominant scrum got a deserved pushover with No. 8 Eoin Rooney getting the touchdown. The capricious wind blew the conversion attempt wide. 67 mins 16-8.

Another indiscretion from the kickoff gave Terenure another kickable penalty chance, which they converted. 68 mins 19-8.

Wegians dominated the end game with the pack dominating their opposite numbers in all facets. However non-contested scrums neutralized a lot of Wegians advantage. But they kept pounding at a rapidly tiring defense, only for the final push to score to be held up over the line right on the final whistle. Full time Terenure 19 Galwegians 8.
