Match Report
Galwegians U20s won out a closely fought contest again city rivals Corinthians B in their JP Fanagan Super Six Group 2 clash under Friday night lights at Crowley Park. Wegians lost two players in the very first play when James O’Malley and Ben Edgenton were forced to withdraw, and first blood went to the Cloonacauneen men with a 12th minute penalty from Ben Wall-Cooke.
Wegians began to settle and they took the lead soon afterwards with a well-taken try scored by centre Owen Cuddy, which was converted by Calum Elwood for a 7-3 lead.
This was how it remained at half-time, but the visitors regained the lead soon after the restart when they scored what would be their only try of the game through Santi Bravo. However it was relatively short-lived as the Blues hit the front again with an unconverted try from prop Sean Malone on 51 minutes, leaving it 12-8 for the hosts.
The game remained in the balance in the final quarter, and was eventually settled when Wegians no. 8 Fionn Roussel forced his way over the line in the last minute to score the decisive third try. Elwood converted to make the final score a deserved 19-8 win for the hosts.
