Match Report
The Thirds win again to make it 3 in a row against Westport on home soil. This result takes them up to second in the J2 table and they boast the best points difference in the league.
It was a tough day weather wise on Sunday and the top pitch was holding on to water like it was going out of fashion...it clearly was not! and after a few rucks a neutral would have difficulty identifying the home team from the away.
The Wegians backs made some line breaks in the early goings but it took the forwards to break the deadlock with a few phases of pick and goes to drive over in the corner. Eoin added the extras from the right wing. From there Wegians never looked like losing and ran in two more tries from Colm McGovern and Eoin O’Mahony. The highlight of the game was to follow when a cracking piece of play by Keiran Kett who intercepted a pass and ran 50M under the posts for a try. Westport had a few scrums and lineouts around the 22 but these never materialised into any points largely due to the well organised Wegians defence.
Another try from Adam and conversion from Eoin in the second half left the score 33 to nil and gave the thirds four more league points. The last league game of 2011 is away to Castlebar on Friday night, on the fun bus with free booze for a win. Still early days in the J2 league but winning is a habit and let’s hope the thirds are now hooked and book another one Friday.
Toliet seat: Hard to pick with a great effort by everyone but Eoin O’Mahony took one for the team for peppering Flannerys with balls.
Man of the match: Nick ... great effort on and off the pitch by the thirds favourite German! Who's nearly 40!
