Match Report

The Galwegians U13 Blue team played their plate quater final away to Tuam last Sat March 23rd.

For the first time in a few games the entire squad was available.

The Blues got off to a good start once they found their feet and used their pace and handling skills to culminate in a try in the corner for winger Alex Brown. The conversion from the touchline was just beyond the range of no 10 Calum Ellwood.

Following the restart the Blues effort in the rucks were rewarded with several turnovers and following some solid runs up the middle by the pack until just short of the line Gavin O Hanlon crossed the line for the second try.

No 5 Colm Marnell got into his stride and made some excellent breaks and eventually bringing the tally to 3 tries.

Scrum Half Luca Danjou was not to be outdone either as he sniped over for another.

The Blues dropped their otherwise excellent defense momentarily which was capitalised on by the Tuam no 12 just before the break, leaving it 20: 5 at half time.

After a few changes at half time including the introduction of Charlie Conneely for Paul Sharkey at full back, the returning John Durkan for the ever solid Mathew Harty at no 3, Sam Guilfoyle and Paraic Conole stepped into the no 4 and Scrum half roles, and Michael Hussey came in at centre.

The opening of the half resulted in another try for young Marnell which this time fell into the range of young Ellwood who converted to make it 27:5.

No 8 John Gibbs who was steadfast as ever in defence and attack and he capitalised on a 50 m plus run by Sam Guilfoyle to cross over for the 6th try of the day.

It was not all one sided however as the ever dangerous Tuam no 12 made his presence felt with a excellently taken try to make it 27:10.

Following the introduction of the entire Wegians bench (Shane Moriarty, Brendan O Gorman, Cian O Shaughnessey and Ryan Murphy) the fresh legs of Michael Hussey came into effect as he crossed for the final Galwegians try.

Tuam still remained dangerous and crossed over for a final try just before the final whistle leaving it 37:15 at the end.

Next up its the Plate semi-final on the 13th/14th of April against either Corinthians Blue or Ballinasloe.

Meanwhile the U13 Black team are playing Buccaneers in Athlone in the Cup semi final on 30th March at 2pm.
