Match Report
Our U15 Boys played Sligo last Sunday at Hamilton Park in Sligo to claim a massive win in the plate semi final and book their spot in the final on the weekend of May 9th/10th .
We will be playing the winners of the other semi final between Claremorrisand Corinthians this Saturday May 2nd in Claremorris.
The Wegians boys started out strong with no hanging around by dotting up 2 converted tries in the first 15 minutes of play to go 14-0 ahead.
Tthe Sligo squad started to make some adjustments and look towards their bench for help, managing to slow things down. They settled in by scoring a penalty and a converted try just before halftime putting the sides 14-10 in Wegians favour.
The second half started with Sligo on the attack and a converted try followed soon after then another unconverted try to put them 8 ahead.
The Wegians boys had a chat amongst themselves along with some encouraging talk from James Heaslip then got to work and came up with a penalty followed by a try by captain Colm Perry to bring the sides level.
Wegians had managed to turn the game on its head, and on the last play of the game they got a scrum from a Sligo knock on deep in the Wegians half. The ball got moved out to Tristan Ryan who as made a spectacular run at warp speed, beating the off-guard Sligo defence to gave Wegians the try that put the game to bed.
Final score at full time was Galwegians 34 - Sligo 29.
