Match Report

U15s faced a strong Monivea side last Saturday in their Cup semi-final. With a blistering start from the boys in blue it took only 2 minutes before David Casserly would cross the try line from a quick penalty tap. Successful conversion from Oisin Scanlon saw Galweigans take an early 7-0 lead.

It would take another 10 minutes of battle before the next points were registered with a successful penalty kick from Oisin Scanlon putting the boys 10-0 up.

Monivea were not going down without a fight and cheered on by the large home crowd, Monivea managed to cross the line on minute 16 to make the score 10-5.

Galwegians playing some fantastic rugby were to get the next two trys courtesy of Oisin Scanlon and Sean Deely making it a half time score of 20-5.

Right off the second half restart Galweigans would cross the line again for what was to be the try of the match. A huge carry by Galweigans captain Dara Flanagan followed by some quick ruck ball from David Casserly would see Sean Deely run a try in under the posts from 50m out beating four defenders on route. At 27-5 up it was looking good for the boys in blue.

However, Monivea were to fight on with great spirit & register the next points when they caught Galweigans sleeping and scored a lovely try under the posts making it 27-12

Just 3 minutes later Siaosi Fiffita would cross the line from a very strong carry of a 5m penalty and push the boys out to a 34-12 lead.

Monivea once again showed they were not backing down & registered some more points with a well worked try from their powerful pack making it 34-17

For the remaining 10min it was to be all Galweigans with a very impressive 40 m penalty kick from Oisin Scanlon & another well worked try from Siaosi Fiffita.

With 9 wins from 9 the U15s march onto the Connacht Cup final on Sunday April 27th where they will face local rivals Corinthians at Creggs RFC with a 12:30pm KO.
