Match Report

Galwegians u 15 played their 9th league match v's NUIG last Saturday in Castlepark at 2.30 pm.

This fixture was competitive in the first round and nothing changed in that regard. The scoreline finished 32 : 21 to Galwegians with some fantastic tries from Galwegians out wide. George Hill opened the scoring on 10 mins with a try converted by Jack Beatty.

Ciaran O'Flaitheartha followed up with a second try on 20 mins having conceded a converted try on 15 mins to bring the scoreline to 14 points to 7 for Galwegians.

We lost our 10 Jack Beatty to injury shortly after having lost our second centre Cian Clancy in the warm up - Cian had just recovered from a nasty knee injury.

Darragh Creighton took over kicking duties to convert a penalty on 28 minutes while NUIG hit back with a converted try on the half-time whistle to bring the scoreline to 15:14 to Galwegians.

The second half belonged to a superior Galwegians. The movement of the ball was swift and assured as was the tackling and rucking. George Hill got over for his second try on 35 minutes and Darragh Creighton converted. Luke Kelly, who took over at out-half, crossed the whitewash 2 minutes later for a fine try which we did not convert.

We scored again in the dying minutes with a brilliantly worked try from the backline finished by Darragh Creighton having just conceded a try from a serious of penalties on our own line. The final scoreline was 32-21 to Galwegians.

Many spectators attended the match and were very complimentary of the brand of rugby being played by this squad who were missing their talisman this year Edward Shekete who is out with a shoulder injury.

So, from an injury hit squad, this team played lovely rugby and stood firm physically on Saturday.

Next up is Buccaneers on Saturday and we await the Cup Draw next Wednesday to see what delights that brings our way.
