U16 Boys 43 – Carrick on Shannon 24

Last Saturday the U16 Boys were out again for round eight of their League campaign. This time it was with home advantage against a strong Carrick-on-Shannon side. Due to pitch availability at Crowley Park this game was played on Dangan River pitch.

A fast paced start from both sides in ideal conditions. Galwegians were first to register some points 10min in with a huge carry from Prop Dara Flanagan. Successful conversion from Oisin Scanlon & 7 points registered.

Minute 12 & some great interplay between Mark Allnutt & Dara Mcgrath would see Dara dot down between the sticks. 14 points up Galwegians looked to be taking full control of this fixture. Not 3mins passed before Dara Flanagan would repeat the earlier effort & get over for his second & make it 21-0.

However, things were to take a turn in the visitors favour from minute 20 up to halftime when they would score three trys in quick succession. A 5m penalty of the back of a scrum infringement would see Carrick tap & go to secure the first. Followed quickly by a great solo effort from Carricks No.12 Cavan McGourty who proved to be a real menace to the Galwegians lads on the day with an excellent performance that would also see him set their fullback up for a super third try before halftime. Halftime score 21-19

The second half however was dominated by Galwegians & they would secure four more trys with Carrick getting one more at the death. Final scoreline saw Galwegians take the victory 43-24

Trys on the day from Dara Flanagan (2) Oisin Scanlon (2) Dara Mcgrath, Sean Deely & Rory Bourke all getting over the line.

The boys have a couple of weeks of now before the make their way over to Corinthians for round nine of the league on Feb 28th. They continue to sit comfortably at the top of the Div1A table and soon all focus will be turning to the Cup competition.
