Match Report

Galwegians U16s were home last Saturday for round three of their League campaign. This time it was the turn of our local rivals Corinthians to make the short journey to Crowley Park. Conditions were perfect for the derby clash. Last time these two teams met if was to compete for the title of U15 Connacht Cup Champions & the Cup now resides in the Clubhouse at Crowley Park.

High tempo stuff from the start last Saturday as both sides need no motivation when it comes to the local derby encounters. It would take all of three minutes before Galwegians would get on the score board with a well worked team try that would see Dylan McCullough carry for the last few meters & dot down beside the posts. Successful conversion from Conall Mullarkey & it was a 7-0 lead to our boys.

Minute 13 & some quick thinking from scrum half Wyatt Post would see him take out two defenders on the blindside before passing off to the unstoppable force that is Siaosi Fifita who would push the score out to 12-0.

Minute 17 penalty to Galwegians. Quick tap from Dylan McCullough, a pass off to Mark Allnutt who made a huge run & served Dara Flanagan with a perfectly timed offload to see Dara over the line to make it 17-0 to the hosts.

Any plans that Corinthians had to be the ones that would put a stop to our boys winning streak were slowing starting to fade at this point with Galwegians firing on all cylinders in both defence & attack.

Minute 22 some lovely interplay between Sean Deely & Alex O`Malley would see the front row run in a try from 30m out showing everyone that its not only the pace & footwork of our backs you need to worry about. 22-0

Minute 24 some really slick handling would see Siaosi break the defensive line on half way & give a lovely pass onto Sean Deely after drawing the last defender to see Sean score the first of his hat-trick on the day. 29-0 after Conall converted.

Half-time score remained 29-0 to the hosts.

With our boys averaging eight tries per game so far in the League Campaign it was looking like business as usual as they entered into the second half. Three minutes in Sean Deely would make an 80m solo run beating everyone in his path to touch down between the sticks, successful conversion by Conall & the score was at 36-0.

Try as they might & with no lack of effort Corinthians just couldn’t find a way through the blue wall of defence. Next to cross the line would be Captain on the day Mark Allnutt for his first of the game pushing it out to 43-0 after Conall again slotted the ball between the sticks.

The dominant performance by Galwegians continued for the remainder of the game with a final scoreline of 57-5 after Corinthians got a well deserved consolation try in the last play of the game. It`s three from three for our U16`s now as they sit on top of the Division 1A table. The team will now begin preparations for their next outing which will see Monivea travel to Crowley Park on December 6th

Trys on the dayΒ  Sean Deely (3), Mark Allnutt (2), Dylan McCullough, Alex O`Malley, Siaosi Fifita & Dara Flanagan.
