Match Report
In the midweek sunshine our U17's progressed to the Cup semi final after a thrilling game against local rivals Corinthians.
After a tense opening 15 minutes Wegians went in front with a well worked try off a scrum when our 10 James Coleman scorched through for a lovely try.
10 mins later after great forward play led by the imposing Emmanuel Makinde, Adam Finn and JJ Philips our #8 Micháel Walsh crashed over in the corner. The conversion by Conor O'Reilly saw us take a 12-0 lead.
Just before half time Corinthians got their first score to leave it 12-7 at the break.
Our hosts had a purple patch in the 3rd quarter scoring 2 unanswered tries to lead 19-12. Showing great resilience and spirit, our lads fought back to draw level when great work from Cillian Hosty forced a knock on and from the resulting scrum a planned move saw Alban Hart break through two tackles to power over the line.
19-19 it stayed until the last few minutes when we were awarded a penalty inside their 22, with the clock ticking down Conor O'Reilly kicked us into the semi final to leave the final score 22-19.
A massive effort by our forwards all match laid the foundations for this victory.
Creggs await in next week’s semi final away and hopefully the lads can put in a repeat performance.
