We played Buccs in a physically tough and testing match in Glenina last Sunday.
We won the match 21:19 as Buccs came with a late surge to come very close yet again to a victory over us. We defended very well in the main all day apart from a torrid enough day trying to defend their excellent maul as well as an unusually error ridden line out from Wegians. Nothing we cannot fix.
At any rate, we opened our account with a top class try on 5 minutes from Joe Agbo which was converted by Darragh Creighton to put s in a great position early in the game - 7:0 .
Galwegians were in very threatening form for much of the first half up to the point where a solid maul from Buccs took them over the whitewash on 22 mins. They failed to convert and we were ahead on a 2 point margin.
3 minutes later we hit back with a really scintillating score from our centre Darragh Kennedy running an unstoppable line . Darragh Creighton converted and we were 14: 5 up and remained o at half time.
8 minutes into the second half, Darragh Kennedy again showed fantastic pace and vision to get over for his second try which Darragh Creighton duly converted to give us a good cushion 21:5.
However,Buccs burst through a slightly and uncharacteristically disorganised defense 5 minutes later to score a very good try and also convert to put some pressure back on us - 21:12.
The game was played on with Galwegians doing very well in the possession stakes and unlucky to not score at least one more try.
Quite a number of decisions went against us and Buccs took advantage to score a converted try on 30 mins to bring this contest to a really tense finale.
We attacked their line and put them under enough pressure to finally put this game to bed.
A really good standard of rugby was played by both sides and we are delighted to face Ballinasloe again in this years League Final for the second year in a row on Feb 10th next.
