Match Report
Despite travelling without a number of regulars through injury and other unavailability reasons, Wegians came very close to gaining the spoils against a game Greystones outfit.
The visitors started in quite remarkable fashion. The kick off was knocked on by Greystones and from the resultant scrum Wegians conjured up a wonderful try following a sweeping backline move , winger Neil Mulcahy finishing in the corner. Scrumhalf Dylan Hamill failed with the difficult conversion.
The home side came back strongly and were rewarded with a converted try and a penalty before the break. Just on halftime Wegians reduced the deficit to two points with a penalty from Hamill.
The second half was a ding dong affair with the teams both scoring further converted tries to leave the visitors still two points behind entering the last ten minutes. They piled on the pressure but just when it seemed they might get in for a winning score, Greystones broke downfield to score a slightly fortuitous try. The conversion was missed to leave the final score 22-15, thus ensuring that Wegians emerged with a deserved bonus point for their efforts.
Galwegians now sit 4th in the table with high flying Old Wesley due in Crowley Park next Sunday with a 2PM kick off.
