Match Report
This local derby was always going to be close and so it proved with the lead changing hands five times in a nail biting affair.
Played in Dangan the Galwegian visitors were first to strike with a fine try scored on the right by left winger Neil Mulcahy. No 10 Dylan Hamill failed with the difficult conversion. College were quick to respond and scored a well worked try by David O’Connor converted by Mark Earl to put them in front. They increased their lead with a penalty from Earl but which was cancelled out before the break with a similar effort from Hamill to leave College with their noses in front by 10 pts to 8.
The second half continued with neither side able to exert any huge dominance and College went further in front with another Earl penalty.
However Wegians began to get more territory and managed two fine tries from No 8 AbdullHaq “Terry” Abayoni and flanker Rory Fleming one of which was converted by Hamill. The sides also exchanged penalties to leave Wegians Under 20s hard fought but worthy winners by 23 points to 16.
Next up is St Marys College in Dublin this coming Sunday 27th January in Templeville Road, Dublin
