Match Report
Played in glorious sunshine and a biting raw wind Galwegians U20 squad produced some excellent Rugby to turn out as deserved winners in their JP Fanagan Premier League 3 fixture against Seapoint RFC at Glenina on Saturday last.
While our Firsts were away in Ballymena the U20s played some commanding rugby to take an early lead when winger Kevin McDonnell crossed the try line and our number 10 Stephen Browne converted.
The scrum was keenly contested with Galwegians clearly the stronger of the packs. It was a very physical game with Seapoint struggling to cope and as the frustration set in too many penalties were conceded and Seapoint lost their number 11 with a yellow card after 18 mins.
This allowed Galwegians to capitalise and we were soon in for try number two scored by Cillian Breathnach and again converted by Stephen Browne. There were errors and missed opportunities by both sides and eventually Seapoint scored in the corner to bring the half time score to 14-7 to Galwegians.
With some substitutions and repositioning of players Galwegians got straight back to business and try number three was scored by Abdul-Hac Abayomi under the posts and converted yet again by Stephen Browne.
Galwegians continued to apply the pressure and a line break from hooker Cian Hornibrook secured the bonus point try with the first missed conversion of the day to leave the score at 26-7.
Seapoint started to rally and again scored in the corner however their kicker was struggling in the swirling wind and was wide of the posts again to leave the score at 26-12. In the final 5 minutes
Seapoint had one final line break to score their third try with no conversion to leave the final score at Galwegians 26 Seapoint 17 and a thoroughly deserved win for a tired but very happy bunch.
It was a great game to watch and "The Blues" sung in the changing rooms could be heard from the main pitch ...
