Match Report
These Under 20s are surely living on the edge, managing a great win away from home for the second week running, this time putting St Marys to the sword in a nail biting affair at Templeville Road on Sunday.
Our boys obviously were feeling the effects of the long bus journey when allowing Marys in for a fairly soft try in the first three minutes which was duly converted.
Penalties were exchanged but the home team went further in front with another try which went unconverted running into a 15 points to 3 lead and looking good for the win.
'Wegians got going before halftime, however, and were duly rewarded when Number 8 Thomas Connolly barged over just before the break. With Dylan Hamill converting to add to his earlier penalty the score was 15 points to 10 with everything to play for in the second half.
We started the second half with the forwards becoming increasingly dominant. The set pieces were excellent and Marys had little or no answers to Wegians power when close to their line. The pressure told with two fine tries scored by flanker Rory Fleming and replacement Number 8 Terry Abayoni both of which were converted by Hamill.
The home side did score another converted try to reduce the deficit to five points, but although camped on the Wegians line for the last few minutes were unable to break down a resolute defence to leave the final score a very satisfying 27 points to 22 in favour of Galwegians.
Next up is Trinity at home in two weeks time.
