Match Report
On a dank and windy day, Galwegians U21s came steaming out of the blocks in their first SW Conf match of the season against UL Bohs in Crowley Park last Saturday. The ferocity of their early onslaught led to an excellent try from fullback Andrew Fallon after 5 minutes, Darragh Leader converted.
UL Bohs regrouped and held out for the next 20 minutes. Then with conditions worsening by the minute, as the mizzle got heavier,UL Bohs forced themselves into the game. Their well drilled defense was getting on top of Wegians, whose scrum was dominating but whose lineout was struggling in the windy conditions.
As half-time approached the home side appeared to lose concentration and allowed UL Bohs to score 2 rapid fire tries, 1 of which was converted to give them a 7-12 lead at half-time.
Wegians made better use of the wind and the huge boot of Leader to pin UL Bohs in their own half and forcing a penalty to bring the score to 10-12. Further Wegians pressure following intelligent use of the boot led to a superb try under the posts by Matt Dever putting them back into the lead with 10 minutes on the clock.
UL Bohs fought against the elements and a determined Wegians defense to score a try in the corner to bring the sides level with 5 minutes left.
UL Bohs fought for victory but a tremendous rear-guard defense from the home side eventually ensure that both teams shared the spoils after an excellent match played in atrocious conditions.
