Match Report
Galwegians women’s 100% away record was ended last Sunday with their decimation at the hands of Old Belvedere in Ballsbridge.
The Dublin side, aiming to secure second place and unlucky not to be top of the table after their one point loss to perennial champions UL Bohemians, claimed the first of their 12 tries in the opening minutes.
The injury ravaged Wegians were helpless to defend the well-drilled Old Belvo and could put only a well taken Claire Raftery penalty on the scoreboard. Where experienced players failed to deliver it was heartening to see new blood pick up the pieces; newcomer Deirdre O’Connor and debutantes Naomi Mitchell and Mary Healy were outstanding, never shirking away from responsibilities and delivering go-forward ball with a confidence beguiling their collective experience.
Galwegians complete their league campaign this Sunday with a home fixture against Blackrock.
