Match Report

Galwegians first away game of the league was also their first encounter with this Dublin side. The visitors were first on the scoreboard with a penalty from Claire Raftery after just 4 minutes. Railway Union responded promptly with an unconverted forward try 4 minutes later.

Lisa McDonagh capatilised on a quickly taken penalty with a try after 22 minutes. The try was not converted. Yet again, Railway Union were quick to react with another try, this time converted.

The remainder of the first half proved frustrating for both teams as the penalty count increased. The home-side used this to their advantage and kicked a penalty just before half-time, Railway Union with a 15-8 lead.

The second half saw a dogged return from Galwegians as they strived to maintain discipline on the field. However 8 minutes in, Railway Union were awarded a controversial try under the posts, which was converted. This set back was a turning point in the match and resulted in Galwegians dominating in play for the remainder of the game. Two successive tries from Mairead Coyne and Emma Clery reduced the gap between the two teams but were not enough to repair the damage that was attained in the first half.
