Match Report

After an exhilarating start from Galwegians, the hosts were held to a draw by UL Bohemians last weekend.

Mary Healy opened the scoring in the first minute of the game with a try, converted by out-half Clare Raftery. Galwegians continued to be the dominant team for much of the first half, Raftery scoring the second try of the game 20 minutes in. UL opened their scoring after half an hour with a converted try but Mairead Coyne’s effort just before half time left Galwegians as the team in control with a half time score of 19-7.

Alas, the second half signalled a resurgence by Bohs who scored 2 unanswered tries, one of which was converted, to leave the home side with a slender 2 point lead with 15 minutes left to play. Replacements Tracy Gannon, Cassandra Lopez, Patricia and Noreen Coyne were introduced in a bid to stem UL’s attack and a try by captain Ruth O Reilly after a string of impressive forward play extended Galwegians lead again. UL were on the attack again, however and a try by inside centre Mairead Kelly and conversion by Niamh Briggs left the teams at 24-24 until the final whistle was blown at Crowley Park.

Galwegians next match is against Railway union at Park Avenue next Sunday at 1pm
