Match Report

This was a crucial game for Galwegians as a win was a must to progress up the AIL table. Galwegians had to forego home advantage because of a waterlogged Crowley Park and travel to the 4G pitch at University of Limerick. Both teams were missing key players with Wegians Ruth O' Reilly, Sene Naoupu, Mairead Coyne & UL Bohs Niamh Briggs, recovering from their international duties against England on Saturday.

Galwegians had a great first half with a dazzling display of tries, scoring four tries to Bohs one from full back Kate English. Wegians winger Noreen Coyne, sister of newly capped Ireland International Mairead, scored the opening try with only a few minutes gone. Scrum half Mary Healy, who made her Ireland debut of the bench on Saturday, scored the second on the 18th minute. Minutes later, No 13. Nicole Fowley crossed the line for Wegians and winger Siobhan Daly finished the scoring of the first half with another try, securing the bonus point for Wegians.

In the second half, UL Bohs grew in confidence & with the backing of a strong wind, they sparked back into life with four second half tries from winger Liz Burke, International prop Fiona Hayes and No. 8 Chloe Pearse. With only minutes left on the clock, UL Bohs led 25-20. Galwegians dug deep and centre Emma Cleary got over the line to bring the game level. Huge pressure was on Clare Raftery to kick the conversion in the blustery conditions. However she proved to be Galwegians herione as she nailed the conversion to seal a hard fought 27-25 victory.
Final score Galwegians 27 -25 UL Bohemians

Galwegians travel to Dub Lane to take on Queens University on next Sunday November 22nd and hope to extend their winning run.
