Match Report

The Blue Belles continued their winning streak this week by earning a crucial bonus point triumph over Queens at Dub Lane, in at what was a rather stop-start affair.

Scrum half Mary Healy, opened the tally after just eight minutes, with some quick feet and an excellent line-break. 'Wegians did not score again until the half hour mark, with a break from full-back, Mairead Coyne. Tries then came in quick succession from number 8 Edel McMahon and outside centre Nicole Fowley before the close of the first half.

The visitors continued to impress in the second half with Coyne scoring a cascade of tries in a 25-minute spell. Queens attempted to break the western defence and showed their determination with three tries of their own. However, the gap proved to be too wide and the homeside were defeated 17-41.

This bonus point win sees 'Wegians leapfrog over Railway Union into the fourth and final play-off spot of the League with one round remaining. They will now host fellow play-off rivals Old Belvedere in Crowley Park next Sunday, in what promises to be an extremely competitive and physical encounter.

All support is greatly welcome to get the girls into the semi-finals!!
