Match Report

Galwegians secured a memorable 15–10 victory over Old Belvedere on Saturday evening, their first away win against Belvo since 2018, to breathe fresh life into their top-four ambitions.

Wegians arrived in Energia Park eager to snap a six-game losing streak, while the hosts were unbeaten in their previous eight fixtures and firmly in the semi-final picture. It was Belvo who started the stronger, using the wind well in the opening half to build pressure and take a 10–3 lead into the break.

The second half told a very different story. With the wind now at their backs, Galwegians grew in confidence and control, producing a composed and intelligent kicking display that gradually turned the momentum. Megan Connolly struck first after the restart, finishing well to bring Wegians right back into contention and earning her Player of the Match honours for an outstanding all-round performance.

The return of Nicole Fowly then proved pivotal. Her superb 50–22 kick swung territory decisively in Galwegians’ favour and put the Bluebelles in a strong attacking position. From there, sustained pressure paid off as Gemma Faulkner crossed to seal a famous away win.

Having fallen narrowly to Belvo earlier in the season, this result will feel particularly satisfying for Galwegians, who now turn their attention to an upcoming clash with UL Bohemians with renewed belief.
